Final Details

Student artists just finished their fourth week of training and rehearsal. The fifth and final week starts tomorrow and should consist of fine-tuning detail work. It has been said that details are the most important part of the actor's job. This maxim makes the actor's job infinite: we can always find more truthful ways to get what we want in a scene, more interesting relationships with our partners, more compelling prop use, more nuance in the way we communicate and so on and so on. Even after actors are off book and letter perfect on their blocking, there is more work that can be done. And all that is required to be successful is time, imagination and, most importantly, the will to be better and to serve the audience better.

BONUS: Students were profiled in an article about the Stella Adler Outreach Division.

  1. I love the opportunity I got to be a part of the Stella Adler summer outreach program. I love the class, the people I met and the director. I'm going to even apply for the year long program.

  2. This week I had kind of an epiphany with my acting. I used to think that acting was a means of escape from the real world. However I was wrong, acting is an outlet for us to embrace our problems and use those emotions to convey the feelings of the character we embody. I now see that Brutus really fits my internal struggle I face everyday dealing with divorce. The conflicted feeling he feels towards Cesar connects to the feelings I face with my father. I am really glad I took this class, it's teaching me a lot more than I thought it ever would and I can't wait to enjoy and absorb all that I can possibly learn in my final week here.

  3. I luv the processes of having the oportunity to be able to perform in a play..And the process of gettin to kno ur character finding his needs nd flaws.. And the feelin of knowin u got ur character down pack makes me fall in luv wit Acting all over again... And in each time I learn more.. Acting isn't abt yourself or the audence watching you. its abt letting them relate to your character..relate to the inner strugles they face.. openin urself to let this character live in u..We actors aren't entertainers..We are vessels

  4. I'm so sad that it's over now, but it was such a great 5 weeks. I wouldn't change a thing about it. Being on stage and showing everyone our hard work felt great. Having Heidi as a director was fantastic too. She was straight forward and honest and treated me as an actor. I fell in love with everything Julius Caesar after this. AND, I adore every cast member. I met spectacular people. I miss and love all of you guys! Thank you for this amazing opportunity.
